Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement with Watford to acquire the services of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro for a club-record fee of nearly £30m.
The 21-year-old, who joined Watford in 2020, has been a prolific goal scorer with 24 goals in 109 appearances, including 11 goals this season for the Championship side.
Pedro is expected to join Brighton during the summer transfer window and will sign a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “Joao has been a target of ours for a long time and has garnered significant interest from various clubs across Europe. He is an exceptional young talent with a keen eye for goal. He will complement our existing forward line tremendously.”
In addition to the imminent arrival of Joao Pedro, Brighton is also nearing a deal to secure the services of Liverpool midfielder James Milner.
Brighton is scheduled to face Everton in a Premier League clash on Monday as they continue their pursuit of European football for the upcoming season.
