Iga Swiatek to play Adelaide in 2 week before Australian Open

Iga Swiatek, Tennis World No 1 has signed up to compete at the Adelaide International 2. Between 01 – 08 January, the Adelaide International 1 will be taking place.

Since Swiatek is set to represent Poland at the inaugural United Cup, the event that is set to kick off on December 29 – the Pole can’t play at the Adelaide International 1.

However, Swiatek will be competing at the Adelaide International 2, which is set to start on January 9th. Adelaide 2 is set to feature some of the biggest names of the game as four top-5 players have signed up to compete.

Besides Swiatek, there will also be world No 2 Ons Jabeur, third-ranked Jessica Pegula and reigning WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia.

Swiatek has had success in Adelaide
At the start of the 2021 season, Swiatek made her debut in Adelaide.

Swiatek enjoyed an impressive Adelaide debut as she made it all the way at the tournament. This year, Swiatek returned to Adelaide and again had a deep run. In 2022 January, Swiatek made the Adelaide semifinal before losing to Ashleigh Barty.

Now, Swiatek is set to return to Adelaide as she would certainly love to win a title ahead of the Australian Open. After a very long and demanding 2022 season, Swiatek hit vacation mode. In a recent interview with Asics, Swiatek revealed that her batteries have been recharged and that she is determined to have a very successful 2023 season.

“For the first time in a long time I had the opportunity to be on holiday, where I had nothing to do. I needed it so much. Including the flights, I had six and a half days of holiday in total, but I feel refreshed. I’ve already got my inner motivation back,” Swiatek told Asics.

In Adelaide, Swiatek will certainly be hoping to do well and put herself in a good spot ahead of the Australian Open. Swiatek enjoyed an outstanding 2022 season and she will certainly be determined to make a fast start to the 2023 season.
